Barbel Bait 7 July 2016
Well the new river season is upon us and I'm sorting my gear out ready to get out there and try to catch a few Barbel this season. So I'm going through my bait and I have been using Dynamite sardine and Anchovy Boilies and sonubaits Elleptical Pellets and now both these products are no longer available .What is it with tackle companies changing baits to catch the angler, now don't get me wrong here but the pellets were perfect for hook baits and I have about 80 left so I have enough to kick my season off and will have to look for another replacement .I did hear they were too expensive to make and if that was the case why didn't they just increase the price instead of bringing out Silly named pellets. On the boilie front I had no early success on the sardine & anchovy but I stuck with them and soaked them in a glug.I did this to try and put some more smell into the bait and I gained more confidence and started catching on them.I have approx 54 left ,glug drained off and put them in small pots to kick off my season while I decide on a new boilie.Im looking forward to fishing the river this season and try out a few more stretches and learn a bit more.

Bream Fishing 24-6-16
On Saturday me and Eddie decided to have a day on jumbles resovoir in Bolton.
I prepared the mix 50/50 of Sonubaits bream feeder and Sonubaits super crush green.Maggots would be the hook baits as someone forgot the corn.We was going to try a new area but with my back the last week we took the option to fish pikers wall .Too cut a long story short Eddie lost more feeders than he caught fish, this area can be brutal , but fishing close in isn't the answer .I fished 40 yards out.
A small shower interupted play but didn't last long . Bites were slow I had caught 4 skimmers up to now and then a small perch.
Bright skies now and I managed a few more smaller bream, Eddie wasn't impressed at all and said he wouldn't fish here again till the water dropped its level.
And caught a few more small bream before a perch over a pound graced my net.
A nice perch to end the session . Total score Browny 9 Brocky 2 minus 4 feeders so his score was -2 .

Gingham Fishery 18-6-16
Today would be a match at gingham fishery horwich bolton organised by breaking surface forum.I can't remember the last time I fished here but the owner has put some hard work into altering the steep staircases down to the water and replacing the old wood with flags.
Not finished yet but makes access a lot easier. Anyway back to the match I drew peg 9 and Eddie drew 13.My plan today was to fish the method, pellet wag and slow sinking feeder.Within 5 mins off all in I was into a lovely common on the method, then after a frustrating hour or so saw me catch nothing. There were the odd fish being caught but it looked like the carp were more interested in crusing around rather than feeding.I switched to the wag and after casting endless amount of times and firing pellets out I decided to fish the slow sinking feeder
With a short hook length. It wasn't long befit I was into another hard fighting mirror, but the bites were not often enough to build a decent weight.I managed a Rudd and a bream on the sinking feeder also.
Time for a Tunnocks , a yes another wrap round and another decent mirror carp bagged and a smaller one to follow not long after . Time was running out and in the last half hour I managed to catch nothing.
1st Tony 36 LB
2 Dave 32 LB
3 Browny 15-15 LB
So I came 3 and was pleased to be in the money, a nice day apart from the midges early on.

Local Match 6-9 pm
Good news is Eddie got the all clear from his tests and just needs two Radiation sessions now so we went to the match tonite.A new water we havnt fished before, 11 anglers this week .I drew peg 16 a nice open water peg and a kinder peg than Eddie Drew.
View from my peg, tactics method feeder and pellet wag tonite for me.I spent the first hour just getting the odd liner and nothing to show for my tactics so I switched to the pellet wag, plenty carp out there, but no cigar until I changed depth to 18 inches and bang a nice mirror of 3 lb.I just couldn't get them going and as the evening cooled down I switched back on to the method.
My bottom bait feed, micros and a dumbel pellet .It was real hard work tonite and I wish I'd fished the pole.
1st 60lb
2 21 lb
3 19lb
Great weights on a warm evening.Enjoyed being out even if the fishing was hard for me.Till the next Time.

Local Match 6-9 Pm
Tonite would see me fish an evening match with my mate Eddie .He was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer before X mas and tonite would be his first time out fishing before he gets his results tomorrow, really hope he gets the all clear and get back on with his life , you won't meet a nicer guy than Eddie. I drew peg 8 and Eddie drew 9. Tactics would be bream for both of us , ground bait , maggot , castor and corn hook baits .
My mix , light coloured ground bait scopex and krill, few balls to kick the swim , instead of keep casting out feeders out.
Pull round I thought , wasn't happening so went on the pole , nice chop on the water but lots of glare from the sun, I introduced a ball of ground bait and castor and fished maggot .
Eddie watching his tip, it finally pulled round on his close in line and a lovely bream.By the end of the match , I managed to blank , the final weights were .
1 st 5-13
2nd 3-2 Eddie
3rd 2-2
Poor weights, 10 fished the match ,
A disappoint all round. me and Eddie were sharing winnings so less the bait I walked away with my match fee .Hope he gets the all clear tmos .Tight lines and till the next time .

Quick Overnighter
Well last Saturday tea time I decided to go for a an overnighter on a local water and try to tempt a carp
I arrived at the water and had a quick walk round trying to spot some fish ,it was a warm sunny evening and with a temperature drop overnight I chose my peg after spotting a couple of carp ,one rod close in and the other fished too a feature.I got both rods out with a solid bag and a stringer of 6 Boilies on each bag.I got the brolly up and bedchair and settle back with a sandwich and a brew lapping up all the sun.It was round about 8 pm and my close in rod roared off, after a short fight I netted an old warrior.
After putting the carp back I decided to relax and wait for night too fall. The sun went down and the temperature plummeted about 6 degrees,a light wind and plenty of bleeps as a load of geese came crashing into the water .I managed to drift off at about 11 pm and just after midnight I had a drop back on my close in rod and the fish felt good, but it wasn't a carp it was a big Bream,of which I managed to bump off with the net,as I was half asleep.Rod back out and between losing that bream I was constantly getting liners from bream. At 3-30 am I had a take on my left hand rod and it was a bream off about 4 lb ,not exactly what I wanted at the wee small hours.I decided to bring that rod in and just leave my margin rod out.I was up early with no more takes I re baited both rods and fished till 8-30am and packed up and went home.Learned a lot from the session and will definitely be back.

Too Hot 8-5-16
I've not blogged as I haven't been out fishing. My mum had an heart attack and I just haven't felt like fishing ,she is still in hospital and still has a long way to go but is getting better.Ive just joined a new fishing club as I was looking for some waters close by so if I fancy a few hours I don't have miles to travel.
The water I fished today I decided to fish the tip rod and pole and just have a pleasure fish to see what I could catch.
I lost a good carp early on to a snapped hook link , I'd had lots of indications and this was my first positive indication all morning.I decided to go on the pole for an hour or so, it was really warm now but the breeze was wam too and it was difficult to keep the pole still. My first bite was a Rudd and as I was netting the Rudd a perch tried to grab the Rudd and I was surprised when I brought my net in I had the perch aswell .
I managed one F1 shortly after but the bites dried up and went back on the feeder. It was very hot now mid afternoon so I packed up to go visit my mum ,but looking forward to going back.
