Bradshaw Hall Fisheries 5-6-22

Well today I had a match with crescent angling on Lake 3.I drew peg 6 and was happy as it was an open water peg so I could fish the tip.Two rods made up, pellet feeder and bomb rod .8mm Ringers Pellet on the band .The weather was wet for the first couple of hours .The carp were jumping clear of the water a lot due to they have spawned .I had what I thought was a decent couple of hours , 9 Carp and a Tench .

My swim , I was casting around half way with plenty of bites , few times had fish on then off, probably F1,s.By 1-30 I wasn’t catching as many but casting more if I’d had no indications on the tip.

By the time it got to 3 o’clock it had dried up and the fish had moved towards the island , I switched to bomb and pellet feeding 8mm pellets .I caught 6 more carp and lost two and it was all out .
1st Darren 59lb
2nd Mark 44lb
3rd Alan 39lb
4th Me 34 lb 4
It was a good match really enjoyed the change of surroundings .

Every year on Lake 3 Breaking Surface have a Memorial match for Lee Martin a lovely chap and most recently Dangerous Dave as we called him , both sadly missed , Dave was a character .
Till the next time , stay safe .

Reservoir carp

Well if you’ve been wondering where I’ve been I’m having a campaign on a 36 acre Resovoir for carp.I’ve wanted to do this for a while as I love waters like these always have, that big expanse of water and what lurks beneath . I’m on my 5th Plank at the moment fishing various parts of the lake trying to find carp with no sightings it’s been difficult but I’m enjoying it whatever the session long or short .I started of in a bay that joins the narrow part of the lake where it joins the larger side ,it’s a fairly long walk and I’m travelling as light as possible .I’m hoping as we get going into summer I can find them ,I’m rather impatient sat behind bite alarms for a long length of time .Where the narrow part meets the bend of the lake really appeals to me and keeps dragging me back , my last session was on the main lake .Chris has joined me on a couple of occasions .I’m hoping to get back up soon and get the marker float out and discover all the depths , that’s my next session to try to unlock the res .

This was from my first session , lovely bay where the main lake meets the narrow arm .

I’m on a match tmos , so till the next time ,Stay safe .

Breaking surface v F1 Boys 9-4-22

So todays match by Breaking surface as a Charity match against the F1 Boys , this will be 2 matches with all proceeds donated to charity .The match today was held at Bradshaw Hall Fishery in Lake 4.With an overnight frost I didn’t know what to expect today .The pegs being used were the roadside pegs and on the causeway.I drew peg 12 .When I arrived at my peg the wind was blowing down my end , I decided to set 2 rods up , one pellet feeder the other bomb and pellet .in the first hour I’d managed 1 F1 and bumped 2 fish off. The wind was cold today with the sun making brief appearances which was nice for a warm .I managed another couple of skimmers ,ide and a bream an another F1.Bites we’re taking a long time hence I was leaving the pellet feeder out longer .at around 1pm I can only say this was going to be the coldest hour of the day , with hail and wind .I decided to change over to the method feeder for the last hour .I managed a nice mirror and 4 more F1,s.At all out I’m was relieved .

The weigh in everyone had caught so it was looking quite close as we moved round the lake .

Final score

Breaking Surface 144 lb

F1 Boys                 127 lb

Our biggest weight was Batch with 50lb

I weighed 15 lb 14

A great day out ,till the next time. Hopefully Tench .

Hall Lane Fishery 3-4-22

Well I’ve not been fishing and today was first match of the season on an invite from crescent angling .We we’re on the besses snake lake pegged from 25-41 .We did the draw and off to my peg .The place is immaculate , lovely grass and bank vegetation all cut back enough to fish the margins .I decided to put in two margin swims and one down the track, also the feeder rod with pellet feeder .Bait wise would be pellets and corn .I spent the first 30 minutes I’m the margins trying to nick a couple of carp to no avail .I went over for a few casts to the far bank and within 30 minutes I had a lump .I rotated between the track and margins fishing corn pit couldn’t buy a bite .When the sun was out it was lovely , when it went in it was chilly .I decided to go back on the feeder for the rest of the match and nicked 4 more lumps , maybe enough to frame but not enough to win .

Match finished and here’s the results .

1st Darren 43lb

2 Kevin 35lb

3 Mike 33lb

4 Me 28 lb -4

Really enjoyed being out again .

Till the next time , stay safe

Searching for Stripeys 20-11-21

Well seems like forever since I fished for Perch. The water I fish is very unpredictable during the cold winter months being that dawn isn’t the time for them so I thought I’d try a half day session into dark to try and catch one of the units in the lake .My favourite way is float fishing with a centre pin reel and float rod

Bait today would be feeding red maggots with chopped Lobs over the top,Hookbait is always a head or tail hooked so the eye is only showing tipped with a red maggot as I only use barbless hooks .The day started off really cloudy with the wind blowing from left to right across the lake . I always find it a waiting game and being patient is the key to success on here as you never know what size perch you going to hook .I use a size 8 hook as I don’t want to be catching smaller perch only out for the bigger ones .

The robin was a busy chap keeping me company through the day I kept him topped up with maggots .As the afternoon wore on the wind picked up and had a couple of indications on the float .At around 2-45 you could see the drizzle coming across the middle of the lake and I was thinking no umbrella ,but hey unless it chucks it down I’m in it to win it . At around 3pm my first bite , and it was a proper one .

I didn’t weigh it but was pleased over a pound and what I came for even though I’d like a 3LB one lol.As the day finished mist was coming across the lake and as darkness fell I returned to the van wet but dry underneath .

Till the next time , stay Safe .

Will the river drop in time 7-11-21

So I’d made arrangements with Chris to bring the dream team back together .We had to have a back up for this feeder session , the plan was if the river wasn’t falling Sunday morning we’d go to a local Resovoir . Well it was so we headed to the river meeting in the car park to decide where we’d fish . The pegs we had in mind had been washed away due to flooding and the level wasn’t accessible so we went another 50 yards down stream and sorted out pegs . Early doors Chris was into plenty of dace and I had only a dace and minnow for my efforts .

Chris watching his tip like a hawk .My catch rate was improving as the river was dropping but now Chris had a nice grayling . The wind was playing havoc on my quivertip so I tightened it up to show either a drop back or the slightest movement .I was catching lots of minnows and dace in between .The wind was getting really feisty now .It was perfect conditions but where were the chub I said to Chris . Chris had to leave at 12 and I carried on fishing for another 2 hours .I managed a grayling also , but the dace  and minnows kept coming .

Look closely even a minnow swam into my feeder for freebies , how sneaky . This was a session I needed as I haven’t been out as much and was nice to be out with Chris again .

Tight lines, till the next time , Stay safe

Moss Farm Fishery 30-9-22

I got invited on another match with crescent angling club .Lovely day with occasional clouds and sunshine .I drew Peg 9 .I plumbed up two swims , one at 10 metres and one at 2+2 . I would be feeding 4mm pellets and fishing corn .I decided for the first hour I would fish bomb and pellet .

It took just over 15 minutes for my first carp , then disaster hand balling the carp to my keepnet it managed to wriggle and I dropped it in the water . Not a great start .

I Managed another 2 carp in the hour then went on the pole . The 11 metre line was proving tough then I noticed after a while my float was sitting right , somehow it was tangled near the hook length ,I tried to sort it and couldn’t so I went on my other line .This line was proving tough also ,back to the tip and a couple more carp then back on the pole .Then another disaster , my float shot under carp on and it was off like a rocket taking a lot of elastic, I managed to gain control and then the hook pulled at the net and the rig went up a tree.I could see down the bank other anglers caring so an all out attack on the tip was where I started catching again , I had a bream and 4 more carp. All out and from a brief chat I may have framed a place .

1st place Alan 32-14

2nd place Kevin 30-4

3rd place me 25-1

I need to get my act together now we’ve had rain and get on the river with all this rain we’ve had and sort out my Pike gear for winter .Till the next time .
