Tuesday Night Barbel

After not being on the river for a few weeks,I managed to get Chris out for an evening session on the Ribble.We arrived at 6-45 and made the long walk to where I wanted to take him.As we neared the spot I wanted there were 4 anglers so we carried on and I could see in the distance 2 more anglers,another area I fancied,so we dropped in a new swim to me.

it wasn't long before Chris had his first rap,a roach on a gobstopper sized pellet,lol.My rods were motionless,as we approached dark I recanted one of my rods and Chris cast to a new spot,he was getting lots of taps and me none.I had a really wild rap on my left hand rod ,followed by a small tap,then boom were in.

Nice splasher barbel that fought hard in low water conditions.

After my action Chris lost two barbel in succession to a snag,unlucky mate,till the next time an

Enjoyable evening spent in good company.

Canal update

My 11-13 New Canal PB on a short evening session.

A lovely tench I caught earlier the same day on a short morning session .

2 Short Canal Sessions 9-7 15

I started the day of by going back to try another area on the canal I hadn't fished for a while.It was a lovely sunny day with a nice breeze.I set up and fished off a barge,boat traffic was busy at times , then a barge came too close to my rods and wiped my right hand rod out, I wouldn't mind everybody else had seen me, there's always one idiot.

I recast ,and sat back, wasn't long before I had s screamer.

Lovely Tench, no more bites , so headed home with an evening session to go.

I arrived for the evening session, similar conditions, I put both rods out and relaxed what I thought looked perfect for a bite.Apart from 2 single beeps on my left hand rod, nothing was happening, till 30 mins later, and that rod was off, after a great fight, she was in the net a lovely canal common.

Back on the Canal 4 July 15

Well  it's gone fast , this time last year I was in Michigan celebrating 4 th July, today back on the canal searching out the carp.

I arrived at the canal and I normally forget a towel, tonight it was my net, I had to go home , get the net and go back, wasn't happy one bit.

I got both rods out on the spot and fed a few boillies and sat back, soaking up the nice weather . I was getting a few indications on both rods, then my right hand rod was off.

About 4 lb

I decided to cast that rod over to the far bank .i was still getting a few beeps on the left hand rod, it wasn't until the sun went down, and the light faded ,then my right hand rod was off again, yes another bream similar size.

I stayed till 11 pm, no further action

So packed up and went home.

Longest day of summer 21-6-15

Well I finally got my river campaign under way last night.I arrived at the river at about 6-45 pm,had a quick look around and decided to fish a peg downstream I hadn't fished for a while.I set up and fished a bomb and a bag,pellet on one rod,boilie on the other.I was quite suprised at how windy it had become,I decided to work the peg and cast every 20 mins.I had two raps on the pellet rod and then a good pull,to find I'd connected with a fish,then it was off.

at 8-45 after fishing in that peg with no more action I moved downstream,I set up and cast out,the wind had died down now,I left both rods for about 30 mins ,I decided to make a change and wrap paste around my baits,fresh bag and back out.It took about 15 minutes before my left hand rod arched over and all hell broke loose,I knew this was a good fish,going on surging runs in the shallow water of the river,at the second attempt she slid over the net and she was mine.I looked in the net and for a minute I thought it was a double.

9.5 happy days,not a double but a good start..............

Last Canal Carp Session 11-6-15

So after last weeks session in a new area saw me draw another blank. I've been fishing 4 different areas hoping to locate the carp,between 6 & 11pm .Tonight I decided to go and look before I fished,the first area kids were swimming there so that was a no go,I drove to the place where I hurt my back ,as I arrived I decided not to bother and go back to where I was the following week.Upon arrival I baited up the area I fished last week ,then made my way further up to an area I fancied for a while.

Both rods out I kicked back to what was a lovely evening.As the evening wore on I had 2 beeps I was questioning my choice and should I move,I decided to sit it out,fish were topping,perch were chasing fry but no signs of any other fish.At 9-30 a single beep and my left hand rod arched round,fish on,after a short fight,I netted my prize.

I bumped into this fella on my canal travels,seems he's happy rocking out.Now with the river season just round the corner,it's time to dust the Barbel gear off.Tight Lines Rivermen.
