Last Canal Carp Session 11-6-15

So after last weeks session in a new area saw me draw another blank. I've been fishing 4 different areas hoping to locate the carp, between 6 & 11pm .Tonight I decided to go and look before I fished, the first area kids were swimming there so that was a no go,I drove to the place where I hurt my back ,as I arrived I decided not to bother and go back to where I was the following week.Upon arrival I baited up the area I fished last week ,then made my way further up to an area I fancied for a while.
Both rods out I kicked back to what was a lovely evening. As the evening wore on I had 2 beeps I was questioning my choice and should I move,I decided to sit it out, fish were topping, perch were chasing fry but no signs of any other fish.At 9-30 a single beep and my left hand rod arched round, fish on,after a short fight,I netted my prize.

my first canal carp,8.8 really pleased after the effort I've put in,sorry about photo.

I bumped into this fella on my canal travels, seems he's happy rocking out.Now with the river season just round the corner,it's time to dust the Barbel gear off.Tight Lines Rivermen.

Canal Carp 30-5-15

Well my last two sessions have drawn blanks.I decided to go back to an area I fished last year.upon leaving the van I felt a twinge on my hip, as I made my way to my swim choice ,I set up cast out and tried to relax, well over 3 hours later of trying to get up and stretch and try to walk it off, I packed up, biteless and in pain.Till the next time ,Tight Lines

BS Charity Match 16-5-15

So the yearly charity match held by breaking surface forum for the charity wipe your tears.I drew peg 24 and really fancied it, the lake had floating islands installed , these proved to be the winning pegs as two anglers battled it out, I fished feeder for 2 carp and 2 bream, I changed over to the slow sinking feeder and caught regular, not good enough though for 24-8.
1st 203 lb
2 118 lb
3 77 lb
Always a good day for a good cause and happy to take part.
Any way tight lines, back on the canal as I type, till the next time .

Canal Carp 1-5-15

I've not blogged for a while,my mum has been in hospital,I missed the best weather due to being busy at work ,and I havnt been fishing.Like last season I tried my hand trying to catch a canal carp,so while I wait for the weather to warm up for bream and tench,or should I say wait for the tench to wake up.
I am trying a different area of the canal, simple solid bag with 15 mm pop up.I had one rod close to the end of a barge, and the other rod just off the end of another barge. It was a lovely evening to be out
I had a few beeps ,probably small fish having a feed on the goodies. Then about 8-30 pm my left hand rod was off,a nice bream around 6 lb.I re cast to the same area ,and waited.

I had a run on my left hand rod, didn't connect.I over cast this time hit the roof of the barge, pulled it back right on the spot lol.As darkness fell I was into another bream about 4 lb.
At just after 10 pm I packed up,no carp.
A nice Bream  ,till the next time Bloggers ................

Lee Martin Memorial Match 11-4-15

Well after last weeks perch fishing ,where the perch seemed more pre-occupied with fry to my worm, and my only bite resulting to a pike taking it,this week saw me attending a memorial match at Bradshaw Hall Fisheries lake 3 to pay respects to Lee Matin.
This is the 3 rd year now,I didn't take part last year,so I put my name down and was looking forward to it all week, and what a lovely week leading up to it,awoke Saturday morning to wind and rain and 7 degrees colder,by the time we had the draw, the weather was better, well,no rain, windy and not so warm.
I drew peg 7,tactics pole at 7m,chopped worm and caster, feeder rod set up,preston method feeder, short hook link and pellet.Started on the pole and fed two swims,I managed to bump one fish and land a gudgeon, switch too feeder,I was catching carp ,and loosing more than I was netting, head scratching situation, positive bites and fishing coming off,I was using 4 inch mwg hooks and all I can say was even tho sharp ,they cost me fish. The only way I can explain this is I bought them last year as there were no qm1 hooks, well back to them for next time.
Results were as follows (1) Chris 38 lb (2) Ian 17 lb (3) me on 10.1 lb.
An enjoyable day, fishing was poor for many others .

A great picture off Lee from a few years ago at Boddingtons, sadly missed on the matches

Northern angling show 28-3 -15

Well today I went with Eddie to the show,he had got a deal on his ticket you get a preston feeder rod
Free admission and a few other goodies. The weather was awful,we arrived early and was at the front ,only trouble was it was chucking it down with rain.Due to insurance we were not allowed in,not good when everyone is getting soaked.
Once inside we headed over to the prestons stand,Eddie got his rod and we had a nice chat with Tommy Pickering .
Eddie and Tommy ,made eddies year ( His Hero ).
I'm not going to go on about we saw this and we bought that, but for me there wasn't enough coarse stuff for sale, what I mean is groundbaits and hook baits .This is really what I wanted, anyway bought a few bits I needed, and we left.

I got some pony z of specimen UK and matching hooks
A new flurocarbon from specimen UK
And 3 refills of pva for the river season.
There was some really good stuff on show and I'm sure it will be a success.
