Last session of the Decade 30-12-19

Today’s final session of this decade would see me after perch again, different water this time.I decided to fish a peg I’ve done well in before but fish as close to an island as I could cast .The weather was bright skies but wasn’t stopping the perch chasing fry early on.
I managed a small perch and I bumped one off near the net .As the morning progressed it started to cloud over and around 2pm I decided to target in front off me and changed to a new Lob and kept feeding little and often.
It wasn’t long before it went really cloudy and dark was approaching , my float dipped and I struck and nothing came of it .It wouldn’t be long before my float went and I bumped another fish off at the net, I’m not really bothered about small perch but it’s nice to get a bite. The light was now fading rapidly and a change to a fresh Lob.At around 4pm I had my last bite and biggest perch of the session  Today .

My last fish of 2019, worked hard for this fella.Id like to wish all bloggers and reader a Happy New Year and I will see you again in 2020.
Till the next time

A Cold Day For Perch 28-12-19

Well it’s been a while since I fished for perch and this water hasn’t thrown anything decent for me so I decided to go give it ago.First job was too dig up some lobs from my garden at home as I can’t buy any locally, with quite a few in the bucket it was time to load my rucksack up with Perch gear and Go.
Upon arrival I wanted to try a swim I hadn’t done before, but didn’t fancy fishing with the wind in my face so I headed to an area I’ve heard produces good perch .I would be float fishing with my centre pin, feeding reds over a Lob on the hook.It was nice and overcast for much of the day with the odd bright spell but that wind bit right through me .

During the morning would see my float dip several times with only one perch , a small one .I kept those maggots going in and occasionally recasted to my baited spot.It would be around 2pm my float went and when I felt the resistance I knew it could be a decent size.I netted my prize and a nice chunky perch it was.
1lb 9oz and a nice result.I continued fishing till just before sunset but the cold got the better off me and I packed up.

Change of Plans 21-12-20

Me and Chris had planned to go to the river today we was hoping the levels would be fine but after checking this morning we decided to go and fish for Roach at a Stillwater.Upon arrival Chris dropped into his Fav peg and I went to one further down.Usual tactics , maggot feeders and helicopter rigs .From the off I was into quite a few roach with Chris struggling At times both rods were going off for me .
Never seen a white goose while I’ve been out fishing. Before lunch I’d caught two pound plus roach, off which one had cormorant damage .
Nasty mark on the roach, shame I had nothing to treat it.
The damaged Roach.

Chris has by now caught a few but not many, seems where he’d normally have the shoal in front of him and they were in front of me.
Another nice roach hits the net.
Another lovely roach .

Chris later nearly had his rod dragged in and the fish wasn’t on long before it snapped him, shame we didn’t get to see it, probably a carp. I carried on catching steadily up to 3-30pm and lost count how many roach I actually caught and one skimmer to my bag.
The day started of with rain and turned into perfect low cloud and low pressure We fished into dark and with nothing more I went home well pleased with the session.
Till the next time .

Pike Session 15-12-19

Me and Chris decided to fish a large resovoir we’ve had our eyes on for a while for our first pike session. We picked our section and went on a long muddy walk, unbelievable what you take but it’s all needed. We found a nice area that looked good with plenty silvers topping and set up. I just ledgerd  2 rods and Chris had one and one on a float. We did find there was some weed on the bottom of which the bailiff said hadn’t fully died of in most areas . It was a cold start but soon warmed up and was glad i took my brolly shelter as it poured down 3 times in the afternoon .
The only bite we had all day , an enjoyable trip and look forward to going back . Hope the river has settled down come weekend, it’s been too long.

Day on the Mere 7-12-19

Well me and Chris were looking to get back on the roach again .Unfortuately upon arrival we found out there was a work party, so we headed to another water we tried last year.We decided to try another  area than last time we fished there .We chose our pegs and got stuck in , fishing at different ranges to try to avoid silk weed .We didn’t have a touch all day, I have a map of this water but it was at home .No good there but will be studied for our next trip .
Plenty of robin pictures today , he had more maggots than the fish . Anyway time for a Pike session and a big Resovoir .
Till the next time , we will be back here soon .

Right place , Right Time 23-11-19

So me and Chris were going back to the water we had a reccy on last week fishing for roach with 2 rods this time.Time to dust of my John Wilson 1.25 tc rods .For me it was helicopter rigs and maggot and castor hook baits, Chris was similar but he was trying out some roach black groundbait . The weather looked great, Low Pressure, chance of some rain so packed the brolly shelter to keep the elements out and sit back and wait for those alarms to scream. We arrived at the venue and the two pegs we wanted , one was taken so I took a peg further round the point and Chris dropped in a peg that he would move out of after casting around. It was going to be a waiting game for these roach so casting out every 15 minutes for me and keep those maggots going in The feeding windows were after 12 last week , this week bang on 11 my first bite .
My first roach, an unusual chunk missing , anyone elaborate.Anyway between 11 and 1pm I had taken 4 roach and the biggest was 1lb 4.Chris was now casting around and being unsuccessful getting a bite. It would be late afternoon when the rods came alive again , Taking a few more roach of which one looked slightly bigger but didn’t weigh it . As Dusk was approaching we would see if they would feed again.Chris wasn’t having any look at all and it was gonna be cheque book and pen for him.The light faded and no more bites came .Chris was quick to pick up he wasn’t in the right area and plans were made for our next trip. 6 Roach in total for me, Biggest1lb 4.

Ronnie The Roach 16-11-19

Well it’s been a while bloggers, not really been out as the rivers have been out of control with all the rain anyway it’s Dream Team Time and Chris is back .Its Time for a Roach campaign looming for the illusive 2+ .I fished a water earlier on in the year and heard there was good Roach in the water so we went yday on a reccy armed with corn, maggots and castors and just a short range feeder rod each to try and find them.we found 2 pegs that were not farm apart and both of us were fishing maggot feeders.Apart from Chris having a small perch and a skimmer we weren’t looking good for finding the roach. I decided to change to double caster and half caster , half maggot in the feeder just after 12 and had my first 1lb roach followed by another Lovely Roach well over a 1lb I didn’t weigh it .
As Soon as Chris changed to caster he was in and had a 1.5lb Roach followed by another good 1lb plus roach .
So I ended up with 4 Roach to Chris 2 Roach but with his skimmer and perch ended us 4-4 but it wasn’t the scores we had found them and the waiting game was worth it.Only downfall of the day was the rain came as the light was fading and we packed up. We will be back armed with 2 Rods next week , Can’t wait.

Lovely Evening On The River 21-9-19

Well what a lovely week we’ve just had very little rain and the forecast was quite high temps for September .Getting to the river when the levels are bang on never happen for me so upon arrival the river was low and quite clear .Peg was chosen and decided to fish one rod upstream and one down stream. The plan was to keep the feeders going in till dark every 20-30 minutes with a mix of 4mm pellets , Crushed halibut pellets and a good sized tin of hemp and a small amount of groundbait.Even though the weather was glorious the wind was blowing downstream, Quite a warm wind of which was shaking the tips on my rods.By the time darkness fell I hadn’t had one knock or twitch .The midges were playing there part in annoying me as I sat there wondering if I should change something or leave it as it was.Out of the blue I had a knock on my right hand rod so after 5 minutes sitting hoping it would pull over I decided to reel the rod in and switch to a different pellet and within 5 minutes of casting out I had a good pull and barbel on .
First barbel to the net and well pleased.I decided to recast both rods now and put some more bait out
there.I re baited my left hand rod with a fresh boilie and the same again a big pull and fish on this wasn’t a Barbel but felt good.I looked into the net and a chunky chub so I decided to weigh it .It went 4lb 7oz and I was surprised as it looked bigger .

Was really chuffed not had a decent chub for a while .I had a smaller chub later on and pleased with my haul I decided to call it a night.

Two Different Stretches of River

So last weekend I went to my favourite stretch, a long walk but had the Rova barrow to get there .The river wasn’t carrying much water and I decided to fish an area that the flow looked good on the far bank . I fished one rod upstream and one down stream. It was a lovely evening to be out and the temps were supposed to drop a lot come darkness. So keeping this short and sweet apart from 3 or 4 twitches and one pull I managed one bite and that was enough for me .
So a trout falls to the net on a boilie .

So last night I decided to fish a stretch I haven’t fished for over a year .It was a really nice evening, plenty of ducks wanted feeding of which I obliged with a few freebies .The peg I fished I had to slightly fish it differently as the far bank had another angler so I moved down and with a chance of putting a rod later in the area I wanted if he left. With both rods out it wasn’t long before a vicious pull and my first barbel hit the net .
Just a small one.  Wouldn’t normally take a picture but always like the first fish in case I don’t catch anymore Barbel. As Darkness fell you could hear the barn owls and a kingfisher skimming the river for food.My next bite was another trout followed by a nice chub .I kept the feed going in and as I sat there having a Decaff I decided to re cast and as I got up my rod hopped over and my second barbel was in the net .

Biggest barbel off the night.
The moon was glaring so it basically killed it so I packed up and left.
Till the next Time .

Last Day Of August

Decided to go and try the same stretch of river I fished last Sunday as it had more water than where I wanted to Go.considering the morning was fine and I went to the tip to dump some rubbish in the morning , the rain came and was a good downpour here it didn’t effect the levels on the ribble so time to set of at 5pm and make my way there .I was in my spot and fishing two rods and it was a tad breezy and a good chop on the river. As the sun was dropping from the sky in the distance all I had to show for my efforts was a couple of twitches.Just before the light went I had a good pull and barbel on .
Taken on a boilie with paste wrapped round. A good fight and was surprised it didn’t go bigger but it’s a Barbel and that is what I’m after. The wind had calmed down and I kept the feed going in every 20 minutes.I had a few twitches and pulls but nothing came of those so I switched baits and fished 2 boilies instead of pellet boilie. As the evening wore on it was looking dire the river was flat calm and saw many anglers leaving the river early.I gave it till 10-30pm and packed up .I’m disappointed the fishing was poor.Glad to be alive and back out.
Till I write again .

The Hot Weekend 25-8-19

well it’s been a really hot weekend with temps reaching 28 degrees up north and choosing the right evening to go and fish the river I decided on today as the temps would be more comfortable .I prepared my bait at home,4mm mainline pellets, crushed halibut, tin of hemp and a good squirt of flavour .i decided which stretch I’d go to as I’d watched the levels and the river looked spot on the bite. I arrived at my peg and decided to fish pellet on one rod and boilie on the other rod.with both rods out I kicked back and had a brew.It was a lovely evening the ducks were out looking for food as usual.it was still quite warm and the sun was dropping down in the distance when my right hand rod hooped over and a small barbel graced the net, then as I was resting the fish my left hand was off. With both fish netted i sorted out the mat.
So a quick snap and got them back it wasn’t long before a dace  took a liking to a 15mm boilie.
So after all the havoc as the sun dropped further in the horizon off the river darkness was looming and I re cast both rods out and waited .It was cooling down fast so at around 9-30 it was time to get the coat on and have another brew .In the distance I could hear what sounded like a chainsaw which echoed in the distance which was annoying .The midges were out and the grass was now getting damp but still no more bites.I was recasting every 20 minutes to get some bait out there and now both rods were being fished with boilie.I would have to wait till 10pm before my next bite and a small barbel graced the net.I finished off my last coffee and at 11pm the rod hooped over and I would have my 3 Barbel off the night .

The biggest of the night and well pleased.Time to leave and can’t wait for next time.
Till I’m out agin Bloggers .

Back on the River 20-8-19

finally got to fish the river with Mike we’ve been trying what seems like ages to get out together for a session and we got out last Night .I took him to a stretch he hadn’t fished before and after a good walk we reached the area i suggested .It was a lovely evening , plenty of ducks looking for free food. The  river was low but had a nice colour and the far bank crease looked good for one rod and downstream for the other rod.We were both getting twitches , but my rod went first and a nice splasher barbel graced the net .
Nice start for me and first barbel of the season. As the evening wore on mike was getting chub wraps and then I was until a good pull and all he’ll let loose , the fish had kites to my left and got wrapped up in my down stream rod , but after a bit of careful angling the fish was in the net and wasn’t badly tangled .

A lovely chub , ain’t complaing. At about 8-30 the far bank saw 4 anglers turn up and this was now an awkward situation , so mike said let’s mived and we managed to walk 180 yards down stream to another area and had both rods out .I kicked back and poured a coffee and then the drizzle cane of which I couldn’t believe it after the forecast wasn’t showing rain.At around 10pm I had another barbel around7lb.Picture to follow.
We were getting rather wet when mike finally caught a splasher barbel and it was time to leave soaked but happy .Great to have a session with mike and hopefully more to follow .

Window Feeders 12-8-19

I fished a new Venue today and instead of writing about my session I thought I’d write about feeders.Theres plenty of different feeders , Cage, open ended , blockend and maggot feeders on the market but earlier this year I saw the new window feeders and wondered what all the fuss was about using them . So let’s take the cage feeder as an example  plug it with groundbait add your particle baits and plug it again .well with the window feeders it’s totally different .They  come in two types a solid feeder of which once cat out the bait releases on the bottom .The caged one releases the bait on the drop better for deeper water as you can catch as it’s going down .

They come in 3 sizes small medium and large .From 20g to 60g including a large bait up feeder .
The thing is with the feeders , put all your particle baits in a tub , micros, casters, Dead maggots , live maggots , chopped worm and corn , in whatever variations suits .

Load it in top picture and plug it in the bottom picture with your groundbait .A great way to get feed out in your swim . Improved my feeder Fishing , Give then a try let me know.
Till the next time .

Resovoir Carp

So last weekend I went to the resovoir on a long walk to fish an area I’ve had my eye on for a while ,Probably my longest walk with my gear since my heart attack and no breathlessness so all was good there and back.I fished off a point into open water on bottom baits .After sitting there biteless  after over 3 hours I saw signs of fish and moved to a tight little spot just enough room for me and my gear

.
So nothing came for my efforts on that day ,so it was back again today to a different peg and different tactics.I started off with solid bags rather than a boile approach.Id seen signs of fish so one up the channel and one accross to an over hanging tree.Apart from a few beeps and nothing to show I decided to fish the margins as I remember Chris telling me the margins payed off.So a bottom bait on one rod with a PVA bag and bottom bait and a pop up rig on the other rod.
The day was lovely a nice breeze at times and a robin visiting my swim all day looking for discarded bait.Mid afternoon I had a pull on the margin rod and decided to reel in and check it and couldn’t believe I’d been done probably by a bream, so rod back out and a few half boiles over the top and kicked back with a brew .As the day wore on catching a carp was gonna elude me so at 5pm and packed up, I will be back soon.

Getting ready For Barbel 13-7-19

well this morning was time to check my bag for Barbel fishing and tidy my bag out ready for my first session.First job was to soak fresh boilles in the pot .Top up my pellet pot and check all pots out for bait .Make sure Scissors, needle , and forceps were packed.Small tackle box was topped up with terminal tackle. Lead pouch was re organised .New batteries were fitted in head torch.Old baits crushed up ready for PVA Bags. All hooklengths we’re checked.PVA packed in narrow and wide mesh  were packed .Scales and weigh sling and buzz bars packed .
It’s no good walking all the way down the river with stuff you might need and things you don’t have, it’s all about being organised so you your session can be carried out .

Feeder Fishing Part 3 22-6-19

Today I decided to fish the other lodge and upon arrival it was Bivvy  city so I decided to fish the opposite Bank.I clipped up at approx 50 yards and put out 7 Feeder fulls .Time to cast out every 10.  -15 minutes .There was a slight breeze blowing into the bank but it was getting very hot sat there waiting for the fish to turn up.After 3 hours bite less I decided to put another swim in at 30 yards and see what happened .I was swapping between maggot and corn maggot cocktail as bait on the Hook.
On the Tray today was sweet corn , maggot , micros and hemp plus the usual 50/50 groundbait mix.
I started to catch on the short line taking 2 perch , 3 roach and a skimmer .So I decided to go back on the long line and see if the bream were there, I took two 3 lb plus bream in quick succession of which this prompted me to pack up and leave as I was tired from the heat , so I packed up and left. Tight lines bloggers , an unusual mouth on the bream I’m picture .

Feeder Fishing Part 2 .9 June

Well I decided to have another feeder session at the same water as last time ,same approach but different peg. When I arrived it was nice and warm considering the weather lately with a wind blowing into my swim.Clipped up at around 40 yards , I fed 8 feeders of groundbait and pellet.
The bait tray fully loaded with goodies. I managed 1 perch and 2 roach and the bites were slow during the morning .At around 12-30 after sitting it
Out I decided to move and try my luck in another swim hoping the bream would turn up and feed but the bright skies were not helping the fishing .

After over two hours of nothing to show for my efforts I decided to leave as I had things to do.Nice to be back on the bank and with the river season coming I’m excited.
Tight lines, see ya soon bloggers .

Feeder Fishing 25-5-2019

well it’s been a long time since I blogged.Due to work and aches and pain I was looking forward
To having a rest and enjoy my break. The day before I was due to leave I had an heart attack,I’m fully recovered now and glad to be alive.
Today’s session would see me goin for a bream  session on the feeder on a local water ,wow I’ve missed fishing . Tactics, worm, maggot , caster and pellet , with a dark mix and sweet mix ground bait mixed together .
The Bait tray fully loaded with Goodies.I put out 8 feeder fulls and then changed over feeder to the Preson window feeder.Wasnt long before the first pull and a cracking sized bream hit the net .

It was a great start followed by a smaller bream. The conditions changed from a bright sky to overcast conditions with a nice chop.I carried on casting on the long line but with no bites coming I switched to a shorter line.
The mix with the two window feeders I used .Next bite was a cracking tench which fell to castor maggot hookbait.

I took 4 more bream which ended my session as the fish now weren’t playing , so I packed up and went home, Not a great session but good to be back .
