Pint of maggots 29 -3-14

Having packed all my pike gear away this week, basically I  lost all enthusiasm and just didn't fancy another session.I had sorted my seat box out during the week and I managed to get out today for a short session, tactics maggot on the pole ,fishing 2 plus 3.
I went to a water I fished once last year, the Game plan was to catch a few different fish for a rod race I take part in every year.I like to catch all types of fish,my best is 17 different species.Anyway back to the fishing.
I decided to fish a peg with the wind on my back, the bites were very timid, probably small fish just mouthing the bait.It wasn't long before I was into a roach. The fishing was difficult I must admit, next fish was a skimmer, then a few perch, then the one I wanted, the gudgeon.I was hoping for a tench and a cruey, but they weren't playing out today.
I spent an hour on the feeder rod in the afternoon,no bites............
A really enjoyable few hours,with 4 different spices,puts me on 5 now
All the action fell to the pole.................................

End of season pike session

With a cancelled job last week,it saw a return to the resovoir which ended in yet another blank.During the week Kieth asked me if I fancied a social on a local water with him,Brian ,young mike and Alan.
I arrived at the venue at 5-30 am,I waited till the lads turned up,late....lol

We made our ways round to our swims and fished well away from each other.Baits were lives  and deads.Kieth had the best action of the day,4 runs, but all his fish fell off ,lightly hooked.
The best part of my day was the sausage butties  and the company....................
Thanks lads.........

So the pike season is over, what a wet and windy winter. The fishing for me way poor, but I did enjoy it,trying to catch has proved difficult for me.Next season is a long way away and it's time to chill and organise the coarse tackle now.

Resovoir Pike 15-3-14

My club water you cannot bait fish after the 14th march,so i decided to go back to a resovoir im very fond off.I put a lot of time in on this res and had some nice doubles to 15 lb.I arrived at first light and decided to fish an area that can produce a lot of fish at this time of the year,i put a herring out and had a roaming smelt rod.At 9am i saw another angler approaching,i couldnt believe he dropped in behind me,well thats something i would never do............................................

At 9-20 i had a dropped run,i recast to the same area and at 9-38 i had a take only to have my bait stolen, sums up how things have gone for me of late.......................

At just after 10 am i moved to my favorite spot, over the years ive wrote all the times the fish usually turn up at,this area was always good till 1-45,so i stayed till 2pm,not a sniff.I moved again and decided to fish both rods close in,hoping for a margin muncher..................

This area in well known big fish area,3-30 has always been the golden hour. While i sat there the local robin decided to sit on both rods.................................

My two favourites, both on the right hand rod.........................................................

My day ended in a blank. This water is an absolute heart breaker ,ive seen people come and go,those that cant hack it,and complain over this or that. One thing for sure is you never know when that  float goes or your drop off moves,it could be a monster.

Been ages since i last fished here, still have a lot of great memories of fishing here, will i be back, who knows.
Tight Lines bloggers, maybe one more session to go now,its all gone pete tong since that opening day for me,and i havnt recovered from it,but hey thats fishing...............................................

Two Barbel And A Chub 10-3-14

Well with the conditions looking perfect for a river session,i met up with Ian Mann and we headed up river on a long walk.We arrived at our spots,i fished downstream below Ian and he was about 90 yards above me. It was lovely, wearing sunglasses sat in the sunshine. As darkness fell the temps dropped and it was now getting chilly.

Ian was getting some finicky raps on the rod,he hit one and it payed off a 4 lb chub, well done.

At about 7-20 we packed up and headed down stream,i dropped in a peg i thought id fished before, seems it wasnt and the peg ,and the peg Ian dropped in was the one id fished before,Lol.

It wasnt long before Ian was into his first whisker,6 on the dot..........................

It wasnt long before ian was into his 2 whisker of the night 6.3...............................

As the evening went on the temps really dropped, all my gear was now turning white with frost.I thik ian got the tactics spot on,i fished bag,pellet/boillie and paste.Ian fished a feeder with boilie and some magical dip,i think that made the difference on the night.Well Done..........................................

Spring is on its way 8--3-14

All week at work i was undecided where to fish,No 1 water was having a work party ,No2 water was ust not fancied and No 3 water is where ust might see some Bream fishing for me.I saw kieth at R31 Phil Kirk talk on wednesday and he said come the river with us,it was on my mind as i headed towards the motorway, turn right or left, decided to go left to a different water, sorry Kieth.....................

I arrived at the water ust before first light,it was really windy as i made my way across two fields, didnt take the barrow,damn....As i closed the last gate i got my first glimpse of the water ,i made my way to the right, plonked my gear down and had a look at several spots,i chose an open water peg, quickly set up and both rods were out just after first light.

Tactics, paternostered smelt in a nice deep area under a tree, the other rod lobbed out at 30 yards was a herring. As i poured my first brew and looked out over the water i couldnt believe i hadnt been here.
At 9-30 my dropper started to move,i un clipped and the fish was moving off,i struck, fish on ,fish off,DAMN....................

I recasted to the same area, same bait and sat back. The morning was quite cold, plenty of activity on the lake with geese, ducks and bloody coots. At 11 i was just  goin to pour a drink and my herring rod screamed off i struck..............................
And this damn coot popped up,another coot run..................................

I recasted to the same spot with a fresh herring. At ust before 12 my herring rod was off again,no mistakes here ,fish on,banked ,picture and released.....................

Not a monster,but a pike from a new water...........................................................

As the day went on i worked my left hand rod and kept the herring rod in the same area,no more action came.Bait fishing finishes on my waters on the 14th march,so off somewhere else next week.

zoomed in on this, anyone lost a spod lol.till we meet again,Tight Lines.............................

What A Lovely Day 3-3-14

As i wasnt working today i had to dry out my stuff from sundays blank, nice and dry now in this lovely sunshine.I spent the morning with my mum we had breakfast did some tidying up as you do and decided to get out at about 1pm for a few hours on my local canal.I opted for the marina area as there plenty of boats.
My target was perch or wont say no to a pike.
My set up was my 2-8g 6-6 rod,1500 reel,13 lb braid to a flourocarbon leader,5 g jig head and various berkley and fox rubbers. When i arrived at the canal there were two others lure fishing and as the conditions wernt perfect,it was nice to be out.

It was hard to tell, fox or a dog.....sun was well bright and you can see me too,lol

I worked around the bridge and then made my way round to the marina.Im unsure on the perch here i know of carp, pike and bream.Spoke to a chap float fishing,he said he catches rudd and small perch.I made my way round where there is a few boats and casted various baits with now joy and moved round to the other side, where casting in between the boats is a doddle.I worked the boats,it was quite warm and it seemed nothing was coming out to play, then all of a sudden bang,im in,couldnt see what it was yet as the water was slightly coloured,it came up,i was gobsmacked a bream of the 2-3 lb mark.

The bream,took a 7cm berkley lure.........................

Avid Carp Transit Super Low Chair 3-3-14

Ive been looking round for a nice low chair for when fishing under my shelter for a while. Now this chair has multiple uses, whether as a guest chair,a chair to relax in when on the river or just sitting behind alarms.or those little tight swims.

Comes in a very robust bag, folds easy and packs back in the bag as it should, and very comfy.
