Derwent & The Trent

Well we returned home today from our trip fishing the Derwent & the Trent Rivers. We split our sessions with fishing during the day and goin back at 6pm till well into dark.On the friday conditions were bright and sunny,we fished a total of 4 swims,we made our minds up to go back at 6pm and chose a swim each and settled in for the night,if i could describe to anyone ,this swim had barbel written all over it.As the evening went on it started to rain, just after it stopped i recieved my first bite a lovely chub and a new pb 4 lb 12.we fished till about 10-30 pm and decided we would fish there again in the morning.Saturday brought a warm and bright day and the swims we wanted were taken. So we moved up river. As the day went on it became warmer with thunder. We packed up at 4pm and headed for food to return later at 6-30pm.we settled into different swims, the rain arrived but slowly cleared.A couple of things happened that night , Lee had caught a chub of 4 lb 10 and never asked me to take a pic, which turned out a regret later. The other thing that happened as we returned to the car park, which is locked and surounded by railings,my van had been robbed and the window smashed,im now £75 out of pocket and minus a few items. So sunday was day for the trent, once id dealt with auto glass and my appointment booked for monday hea headed out what proved to be a very difficult days fishing. The river had rose at least a foot above normal level,we tried everything and fished lots of swims, the day ended in a blank.Monday was a washout due to the van having the glass fitted,we had a walk along the canal as my van was repaired. We said our goodbyes at the Guest House which was fantastic,no barbel but a great time was had,we.ll be back there again, thanks to Patrick at three rivers angling and thanks to lee for bein as usual good company.

A Day Feeder Fishing

Decide today to return to a water in search of Tench.Tactics,Groundbait, castor, maggot and worm.I used a 35g Cage feeder and a hooklink to a size 14 hook.Started of in a fancied swim, plenty fish topping, not a touch.Got the float rod out and was feeding maggot little and often,no luck there,so moved into a quiet bay and decided to resume float fishing, after about 15 mins,i decided to move again as the wild life were chasing my little and often maggot feeding.I walked halfway back round the lake and settle into a nice swim, first cast a nice perch, had plenty of bites, roach and skimmers. Not long after i had a proper pull on the tip and after a short fight i landed a 4lb 1oz Bream.Plenty of bites came but nothing of size so decided another move was needed. There is another smaller water next to where i was,so decided to fish the last 2 hours on there. When i made the walk to the other water it was busy,so i made the walk round the lake i was on to fish another swim, plenty of bites followed with roach, perch and skimmers,no tench.Packed up but will be back.

Boddingtons Resovoir

Had a match here today.65 acre water,100 pegs.we had pegs 1 -26. I drew peg 7.The tactics today were method feeder, straight lead and pva bag and the pellet waggler.Caught a nice common first cast on pellet waggler, prove to be the kiss of death.Kept feeding 8mm pellets but couldnt get them going at all.with half an hour to go i had a take and the fish ran 50 yards, got the fish to within 10 yards and my line rubbed on the rocks, snapped.cast out again and had another,it came off, just wasnt goin to be my day.the winner had 30lb.not as good as last year where 100lb won,i had 76lb.A 147 mile drive there and a lonely one back
Till the next time.
50,000 carp were intoduced to this water by british waterways

My set up,only 80 pegs have concrete, the rest are either rocky or fish on the beached area

My only fish, not a great picture, wouldnt keep still, slaped me in face with her tail.

Home made feeders updated

I managed to source the mesh today,3ft x 2 ft sheet .i cut a piece and shaped it to the same size as the hair rollers i used.Ive used a shorter in-line sleeve on this one as i,d run out of the longer ones.
Need to test them now, till the next time..................................................................

Home Made Feeders

Decided to have ago at making my own feeders for the river.I managed to source through a friend the cow leads. The parts used to make theses are flexi ring swivel, some wire trace,a crimp and some korda in-line lead sleeves and the hair curlers. The only things i had to buy are the korda in-line lead sleeves and the curlers ,which cost 99p for 6.
Probable total cost for these would be £1
